MAMA TESTA
Posted in FOOD on July 30, 2009 by pralinesncreamI remember a few months back, my sister sent me a text and told me that Bobby Flay was near Balboa Park filming an episode of “Throwdown with Bobby Flay” for the Food Network. Bobby Flay is that dude so I was pretty bummed that I didn’t know about it. I’d be there in a heartbeat if I knew otherwise.
A few days ago my homie Joel posted the spot on Facebook where Flay went to during the show. I was in the area so I decided to stop by and see what the fuss was about. Here’s a short review on my experience. All photos were taken with an iPhone 3GS.
I found parking across the street and jaywalked ($125 fine if caught) my way to the restaurant.
The place is pretty small. You order right there at the rear of the restaurant. I had no clue what to order so I bluntly asked the waitress “What did Bobby Flay go up against?” The waitress told me the whole story that happened that day and suggested to try the fish tacos since that was what was featured on the show. Here’s a shot of the restaurant.

The salsa bar is pretty awesome. They’ve got like 10 different types of salsas to choose from. Here are three of them that I selected. I love the pot containers that they provide for their patrons. A nice touch as opposed to plastic throw away containers.

I ended up getting my food in about 10 minutes. I heard the line gets pretty long like most restaurants do when being featured on the Food Channel. I walked right up since it was an off time. Here is my platter. Two fish tacos accompanied by a side of beans and rice.

Here’s a shot of the famous fish tacos. I won’t tell you who won the competition between the owner and Bobby Flay. You’ll have to watch for yourself!

Final verdict?
The tacos are great. I love how the tortilla has that Jack in the Box taco shell but WITHOUT the grease. The ingredients tasted fresh as well and went well with the tomatillo sauce that I picked out.
The beans and rice complimented the food really well. Are black beans usually that good? I was really digging them over here as I usually order pinto whenever beans are an option.
Now on to the negatives.
Price.
Don’t get me wrong, the food is great. The only thing is that it’s overpriced. My platter ended up costing like $10. As you can see above you can get more food at Santana’s for $5.50. I’m not sure if they’re trying to go for the upscale steez.
Judging by taste, ingredients, waitress service and overall experience, I’d give it a 4 out of 5 stars. The service was really good and prompt. The food was very fresh. The only thing I can knock was the price. Other than that, I’ll be back again when I’m in the mood for fish tacos.

50TH ANNIVERSARY
Posted in SAN DIEGO CHARGERS on July 28, 2009 by pralinesncreamSorry for the lack of updates lately. I’ve just been really busy and haven’t been able to use my camera as much as I would like to. Last weekend I got the season ticket package from the San Diego Chargers. I can’t wait for the upcoming season to start. They included a few gifts this time around since it’s the Chargers 50th Anniversary.
Complimentary pen to fill out the 50th Anniversary book as the season progresses
Season ticket holder pin. Should I wear this to the games?
This season is my second relocation since getting season tickets. I was up in the VIEW section the first season, then moved to PLAZA the last few seasons. This season I moved up to FIELD level endzone. It’s basically the same seats that I had last year but A LOT closer WITHOUT obstruction. I can’t wait! It should be GREAT.
Here’s the commemorative book that they provided
You can fill out the final score on the left page as well as insert your season ticket. I need to get one of those lanyards that hold the ticket so that it won’t get bent when I go to the games.
Philip Rivers for MVP!

I know, I should have passed it awhile ago but I just started getting back to serious running as of late. Wish me luck as I try my goal to 1000K! Hopefully I’ll get there in 4 months by running 30K per week! Root me on! HAHA
