THE GETTY

Posted in THE GETTY on March 27, 2009 by pralinesncream
I never really appreciated art until I went to Rome last year.  From there, I learned and gained a whole new appreciation for the amount of dedication one person would put into their art.  I visited the Sistine Chapel built within the Vatican and was AMAZED by the amount of difficulty and detail that Michelangelo displayed in his works.  From then on, I was hooked and have read and gained more knowledge on the artistic side of the world.
I’ve been wanting to revisit The Getty up in Westwood for some time now, so it was perfect timing that I was staying in LA last weekend.  If you haven’t been to The Getty, it’s a pretty remarkable place sitting on top of mountain overlooking Westwood.  The admission is free (there is a $10 parking fee though) so anyone can go and see it.  I took many pictures.  You can view them here without caption.

Last but not least, doing my “side view Indian” pose. LOL

PORTO’S BAKESHOP

Posted in FOOD, PORTO'S BAKERY on March 25, 2009 by pralinesncream
I went to Porto’s last weekend for the first time to try some of their “world famous” pastries.  I found it alarming to see how busy this place was.  My friend Anthony told me that it was the Retail Bakery of the Year in 2005.
Check out the store front.  It was a really cloudy day.  Inside the bakery was about 200 people waiting for pastries.

An assortment of croissants, cookies, strudels…
Muffins, cupcakes, rolls…
Cakes and pies
My bag filled with goodies
Check out my copups.  The box.
Assortment box filled with banana langkas, apple strudels, and potato balls
#2 Best Seller.  Guava Cheese Strudel.
#1 Best Seller.  Cheese Rolls.

MUSCLE BEACH

Posted in VENICE BEACH on March 24, 2009 by pralinesncream
I’ve been to LA about a million times in my life and felt like I’ve seen pretty much everything, with the exception of one place.  VENICE BEACH.  You often times see Venice featured in movies, tv shows, and other film events, most recently in the movie, “I LOVE YOU MAN” featuring Paul Rudd and Jason Segel.  I decided to visit here with Uncle Boom (Boom’s Pointless Mind) to check it out.
Mad Homo

The famous weight set on Venice.  This is the ultimate place to work out at.
Basketball courts for hustling white men who can’t jump
An assortment of shops
WROLD’S BEST FUNNEL CAKES!
Do you old skoolers remember MAUI and SONS?  I thought these guys went out of business.
I have an HD video from Venice but cannot upload it since my new 24″ iMac is enroute to my location.  I’ll set it up next week once the iMac arrives this weekend.

COME BEARING GIFTS

One of my friends saw Willy’s Adobo Nation feature the other week and was asking if I can pick up a Philippines Flag Birdhouse signature board. He’s hooked me up with a bunch of sunglasses at a HUGE discounted rate so I figured I’d hook him up and get a board for him. Big ups to Willy for signing it out to my friend’s dad. This will be delivered tomorrow. If you want to see the Adobo Nation feature, click here.

MAYWEATHER JR. SET TO RETURN

Posted in BOXING, MANNY PACQUIAO on March 19, 2009 by pralinesncream

“He is coming back. I’ve been around him. He’s ready to dance again very soon,” said one source, who recently spent time with Mayweather and has known him for years. “He’s itching to go. The way he sounded, he is willing to take on whoever they throw in his face. He would do the [Manny] Pacquiao-[Ricky] Hatton winner, Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez. The only one he doesn’t have an interest in is [a rematch with] Oscar De La Hoya. But in Floyd’s mind, he knows there is one Godzilla, and that’s a fight with Pacquiao.

iPHONE OS 3.0

Posted in iPHONE on March 18, 2009 by pralinesncream

The iPhone 3.0 software was announced yesterday to the delight of many iPhone users.  There are a few major points to outline such as the inclusion of MMS messaging, copy and paste function, as well as landscape keypads.  It’s a welcomed sight to see the improvements to the new OS.  This will be available to the general public for a free download this summer.  For hard core iPhone devotees such as myself, you can expect the release to coincide with the new updated iPhone 3.0 supposedly due out this June.
Here are the list of upgrades announced yesterday:
- In-App Purchasing: Allows developers to sell additional content from within applications. Highlighted uses include magazine subscriptions, eBooks, additional levels and items for games.
- Peer-to-Peer Connectivity: Find other devices running the app via Bonjour over Wi-Fi of Bluetooth. Good for gaming, but also other applications for sharing data.
- Third-Party Accessory Apps: Allowing accessory manufacturers to create applications to interface with their hardware accessories.
- Push Notification: Rather than using background processes that hamper battery life, utilize third-party server to push badge, text, and audio alerts from applications.
- Turn by Turn: Apple will allow developers to use CoreLocation for turn-by-turn GPS directions.
- Cut, Copy and Paste: Available across all apps. Shake to undo or redo.
- Landscape keyboard: Available in all key applications, including Mail.
- MMS: Picture messaging now available.
- Voice Memos: Record notes, lectures, interviews, etc.
- Spotlight Search: Available across all applications. Systemwide search available from main home screen by flicking to the left.
- A2DP Bluetooth: Support for stereo bluetooth headsets.

NEGATIVE CALORIES

Posted in EXERCISE on March 17, 2009 by pralinesncream
I tried to push myself today due to recent inactivity because of my back injury so I kind of went all out today. I started off by doing a 9.66km/6 mi run, followed by a 1k swim in an olympic sized pool and 400 crunches. My run was kind of slow because of lingering problems in the back. I haven’t ran in a few weeks so it took me awhile to get my stride but I had to go at a slow pace to get my conditioning going. Check out my run information to the right. I wasn’t so tired afterwards, so I decided to go do 46 laps in the pool.
After all my work was done for the day, I went to boxing class. Rejuvenation. I forgot how exhausting this can be.
As far as foods are concerned, very minimal. All I had today were two cans of tuna and three protein shakes. I didn’t feel hungry all day. I just kept feeding myself protein shakes to hold off the hunger. It’s the stretch run for lent so I’m going to push myself until April 11th, the day before Easter.
I train hard in boxing class to represent for the Filipinos. I think there’s only two of us there along with 40% Mexicans and 40% whites. I can’t let Pacquaio down. LOL Tomorrow I’ll just do the run in the morning. Burger Machine Basketball is also trying to position itself in the playoffs. I’m going to come off the bench and help any way that I could. If you’re in San Diego, come watch us play Wednesday at 7:30pm at Alliant International University. See you guys there.
